Curry Leaves or Curry Patta are widely used in our Indian meal, they are very much use in Indian Cooking and medicine, it’s a small Green leaf with distant flavor and fragrane, and is commonly used in Indian Cuisines, they have numerous medical and nutritional benefits as well as cosmetic uses.

In addition, consuming curry leaves can also help lower Cholesterol and Triglycerides. Infact, animal studies have shown that the use of  curry leaf extract can reduce these condtion. A 2 week study on Rats that were Obese showed that daily Oral treatment with 136mg of Curry Leaf extract significantly reduced their levels of Triglycerides and Cholesterol.

These results were correlated with the high amount of an Alkaloid called Maha Nimbine in the Leaves. A similar study was conducted on Mice that were fed a high fat Diet. It revealed that Maha Nimbine prevented the animal from experiencing varius complications, such as fat accumulation and Inflammation, which could increase their chances of developing heart disease. Other studes have also shown that curry leaf extract reduces Cholesterol levels. Despite the promising results of these studies, more research is needed to confirm the effects of curry leaf on the human health.

Curry leaves contain compound that have significantly anti-cancer effects.  study conducted on curry leaves extract sample from  Malaysia revealed that they inhibited the growth of breast cancer cells. A third test tube study revealed that the curry leaf extract significantly decrease the viability and growth of breast cancer cells and caused them die.

In a test tube study it was also discovered that curry leaf extract can be toxic to human cervical cancer cells. In a study conducted on mice with breast cancer, the curry leaf extract was able to reduce the growth of cancer cells and prevent them from Alkoloids compounds in curry leaves, such as Girinimbine, can induce the death of the colon cancer cells.

Besides Grinimbine, researchers also believe that curry leaves contains compounds that are capable of fighting against other types of cancer. These includes quercetin Rutin, Gallic Acid, and Catechin. Despite the presence of compounds that can potentially fight cancer types of cancer cells, more research is needed to confirm the effectiveness of curry leaves extract on human.
